Do Not Adjust Your Set

I am addicted to television. So much that sometimes I think maybe I should try to give it up. Right now though with grad school, I'm quite certain it's one of the only things keeping me sane. I generally only have 4 or 5 shows that I keep up with, but having never had HBO until I moved to the city, now that list has grown. I've already talked about my Glee obsession, but there are a few others I just can't miss.
By far, my favorite is Mad Men. There has never been a more beautiful show to watch.
I want every piece of these ladies' wardrobes.

I have a MASSIVE crush on Jon Hamm. He is beyond dreamy. He's also hilariously funny.

Not only that, but it's fascinating to experience the world our parents grew up in. There were several episodes where a pregnant woman was drinking AND smoking, and as someone in the health field, I was convinced when they finally showed the child it would have FAS or something. Then one day when I was watching it with my dad, they again showed the character smoking and he kind of laughed. "My mom smoked when she was pregnant with all of us. I don't know how we all turned out healthy." Interesting stuff. Truly though, it was a different world. People get reamed for that behavior nowadays.

My second favorite is Modern Family. This show gets me to tears of laughter on a weekly basis. Every single character is so strong. I literally change my mind every show as to who is my favorite. The writing is hilarious.
Most of the time, Cam makes me laugh the hardest.

This picture is one of the best ads I've ever seen for a show. So freakin' funny.

And now, my new HBO baby, Boardwalk Empire. Gorgeous to watch, just like Mad Men, but not being on basic cable puts it on another level since they don't have nearly the same amount of censorship. I'm so excited that Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt are finally getting appreciated for their insane talent, they deserve every award the show has gotten so far.
Michael Shannon, first on the left, is from Kentucky =)

Brilliant.

Beautiful Ladies of Prohibition. I would give my left arm for the blue dress...

What are your favorite shows? I'm always willing to try something new. I highly suggest the ones I've mentioned here. But beware. You are likely to become addicted.

Can't Help Myself

I'm LOVING these dresses! Very few disasters today! People magazine and I seemed to have picked a lot of the same favorites. I liked the colors of Cate Blanchett's gown a lot, but really didn't like the circle cutout. I think if it'd been an upside down half moon shape just over the cleavage I would've liked it, but the way it is it looks like the back part of a casket to me. I liked Gwyneth Paltrow's dress, it looked like liquid silver, but really didn't like her makeup. I'm suddenly aware of how b*tchy I sound--these women are all drop dead gorgeous, more beautiful than any amount of doctoring could do for me-- but I am picking my favorite 10 that I thought picked the right dress, hairdo, etc. the whole thing.  That being said, without further ado:

This woman just had a baby. 'Nuff said.

The fashion peeps didn't like this one much, but I think it suits her and like that it's different.

I wasn't sure about it at first, but it photographs beautifully! Jewel tones on redheads-you can't go wrong.

The red looks great on her! And I loved the rose detail.

When I first saw this, I thought ohmygoshherboobsaregonnafallout. But what a gorgeous color, and I love the lace.

Unbelievably pretty and ethereal.

Another KY native! Her figure is insane!

Can you believe she helped design this? I'm so glad it's still young looking. She is a doll.

Once again, I really think I could get married in this dress! Maybe it's too gaudy for that occasion, but I think it could be done.

My FAVORITE. She is impeccable head to toe. I would love to be able to pull off that haircut.
Camila Alves was very pretty as well, but I wish she would smile! The cut on this dress is so simple, but striking. If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the Amsale dress that I fell in love with on 27 Dresses. It was the wedding dress the sister wore in that movie. So simple, but so flattering!

I really really wanted to add Natalie Portman to this list, and I love the color on her, and the hair, but I just didn't think the gown did anything for her? Also really don't care for the earrings.  Either way, if this is what pregnancy looks like, my clock might start ticking. She is just an incredibly beautiful woman.

Off to finish watching the awards. So who did ya'll like?

Romance is Alive and Well

This is one of my favorite videos of all time. It reminds me how much I wish I was born with beautiful red/strawberry blonde hair, and also that romance is still out there. Yes ladies, it is. I refuse to give up on it. I know this video doesn't exactly follow the norm for love songs as far as lyrics go, but when he sings, he understands her, and that's all most girls can ask for is for him to try. If anyone out there in cyberspace is reading this (seeing as right now my 3 followers are 3 close friends, haha), I'm curious what you've seen that makes you feel this way too....

Her Morning Elegance

And the Oscar goes to...

Today is practically a holiday for me. I love looking at all the elaborate dresses these women get to wear. How amazing would it be to have designers crawling over each other for you to wear their pieces? And what girl doesn't love getting her hair and makeup done and just feeling incredible? If I were at home I would probably convince a friend to dress up in one of our old prom dresses and split a bottle of wine and watch it together. But alas, didn't bring any prom hilariousness with me when I moved. Wine is still very likely...

Here are some of my favorites over the last several years:

Such a pretty back to this dress.

I know she's engaged, but I kind of loved them together.

She's basically flawless.

A lot of the fashion people hated this one, I actually loved it. You asked for glamour, and she brought it.

I am obsessed with this color.

She's just so gorgeous, I love that she's always smiling so big and not trying to fake pout for the cameras (*cough cough* miley cyrus, lea michele).

I love the blush color, this is a movie star dress.

She looks like a painting, and the sweep is amazing.

Stunning.

Such a beautiful color on her.

If your back looks this awesome, you're crazy to not wear something like this.

I'm so sad we lost him.

I love the way he's looking at her. This dress was epic.

I would get married in this one.
How adorable. I hope Natalie Portman wears something like this.

Hello, my name is Catherine.
And I am a Gleek-aholic.

I am ridiculously into this show. Once I moved to the city, I ran into a girl I knew from home and we decided to make watching the show together a weekly event. Now we have 4 regular attendees and have had 3 or 4 others who come and go. We always pick out our favorite performances and rewind to re-watch them at the end. It's a problem, ha. Anyway, I almost jumped off the couch a few weeks ago when they did P.Y.T for a few reasons. 1) I LOVE that song, it's my ring tone, 2) Artie and Mike Chang were so freakin' cute singing and dancing down the hall, and 3) This outfit that Brittany wore:

[P.S. I make numbered lists a lot if you couldn't tell]

I tracked down the shirt, but of course it's sold out and on back order. Probably for the best, I don't know if I could pull off the entire outfit. This actress/dancer, Heather Morris (I think), is incredible. If you didn't see the episode dedicated to Britney Spears songs, Hulu it immediately. She is the best female dancer I've ever seen! I honestly think-and I know one person who will not like me for saying this-she looks even better than Britney doing her songs!! Every time she's dancing, me and the 3 other girls swear we're starting a strict diet and exercise regimen the next day.
The other funny part is we all have our own crushes on the guys on Glee. L. and A. like the blond, Sam; T. likes Puck; and, true to form, I have a crush on Blaine, one of the two gay guys on the show. I say true to form because since moving to NYC, I've probably crushed on at least 4 gay men. We're talking buff, scruffy, flannel wearing macho guys too-not the skinny jean stereotype that they often are stuck with. That's an entirely different post-ANYWAY, if you haven't been watching this show, start now. I guarantee it will make your week better!

The Sartorialist

Living in New York City (home of some fabulous fashion) + full-time grad school= no fundage to partake in any such fashion. Thus, I must live vicariously through the thousands/millions of gorgeous people walking around Manhattan, and try not to drool. Then, through another friend, I happened upon a magical blog called, The Sartorialist. I'm sure this is not anything new to most of the people in the blog world. But in case you're new at this like me, it's a fashion blog by a very talented guy- Scott Schuman-- who photographs people on the street who impress with their dress. What I find hilarious is that Zoolander really proved to be ahead of it's time...Remember the 'Derelict' campaign? The joke being that the guy was trying to make hobo dress chic? That look is exactly what is huge in NYC right now. People are pulling out all the stops to look like they slept in the gutter and dug through a moth ball infested closet from the 70s. It's really pretty funny. Still, as some of the flawlessly beautiful people in these shots show, a few people can actually pull it off.
He also posts pictures from fashion shows across the world as well, sometimes shooting celebrities, designers, or collections. In reality, I will probably never own clothes this gorgeous, but a girl can dream. Thank you Scott, for allowing me to stare at these people-- from the comfort of my home so that I don't get slapped with a restraining order.

Here are some of my favorites:

 I really want her boots.
I could eat him up. I wish guys still dressed like Sinatra. I was obviously born in the wrong decade based on my last two posts. I'm entirely obsessed with the 50s and 60s.
 Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts.
THOSE SHOES! And I love the cut on the coat.
 I want that hat!!
Probably one of the absolute cutest little boys to ever walk the planet.

Adele

1) Love her name.
2) A voice that smacks the all-sound-the-same-too-many-auguilera-runs-and-screaming-cause-they-can't-sing women out there in the face. I know I can't sing, but really, where's the originality?
3) The way she sings establishes her as a classic voice like Etta James and Rosemary Clooney. Why oh why doesn't anyone sound like that anymore??
4) If only I could sing.

5) This. Song.

The First Day of the Rest of My--Blog

After counting up the ridiculous number of bookmarks on my computer for favorite videos, pictures, websites, etc. and realizing I didn't know what half of them were from their titles, I decided the best way to compile them would be to make a blog. A scrapbook of sorts so that I can look at them relatively all at once in one place and have somewhere to add future things I fall in love with. I expect to entertain mainly myself with this venture, but if someone else out there enjoys some of this stuff, then that's wonderful, too. Welcome, kick off your shoes, and I hope you stay awhile.
